Two robot models supported by artificial intelligence (AI) technology have been put into operation at quarantine hotels and community checkpoints in Longhua District to enhance the efficiency in the district’s fight against the recent COVID-19 resurgence March 1.

Longhua District previously developed an AI and big data-based smart governance platform which helps detect people and vehicles that violates COVID-19 prevention rules in public spaces, such as not wearing masks, not showing health codes upon entry or leaving the room without permission at quarantine hotels. The new AI robots, which are supported by the smart governance platform, have been so far applied to a total of 26 quarantine hotels and 1,125 community checkpoints in the district since its launch this month.

One robot model named “Longyan No.4” is designated for detecting behaviors that violates epidemic prevention norms in quarantine hotels. After detecting the violations, it can send an alarm to staffers of the hotel and upload the record to the smart governance platform in a timely manner. “Longyan No.4” has been installed in all the quarantine hotels in the district and has so far stopped people in collective quarantine from going out of their room without permission for six times and detected malpractices of staffers for 28 times.

Another model “Longyan No.5” is designated for aiding community epidemic prevention work. It can be installed at the entrance to and the checkpoints to monitor the residents’ behavior in a 24/7 manner and has so far detected a total of 803 behaviors which violated prevention norms such as entering a estate without wearing mask or showing health codes.

The smart governance platform can detect incidents such as occupying fire escapes in urban villages, illegal parking of vehicles and scooters in residential compounds and the illegal disposal of garbage, which greatly improves the district’s grassroots governance capability, and is also accessible to other government service and community management platforms.
